How to Resolve - Windows 7 Having Intermittent Connection Issues?

Windows 7 Having Intermittent Connection Issues

I am having a problem where as Windows 7 does not always re-connect to a home network that I have set to automatically connect to.  It will sit at Authenticating forever and a day.  To remedy the situation, I have to cycle power to the router but I am
becoming quite weary with having to do this a couple times or so per week though.

I never had to do this when I was running Windows Vista (on the same network ).  There is another laptop on the network running Windows Vista and it is not having a single problem.

The home network is using a Netgear WGR614 v7 router, and the wireless card in my laptop is a Realtek RTL8187B.  I have been re-connecting to other networks without incident though.  Windows 7 Update has already updated my wifi card driver.

I had the same problem, I would be connected to a wireless network for days, and then all the sudden I would lose connection for days.
I couldn't even connect to other detectable networks.
I tried a plethora of different fix actions but the one that worked
for me was running command prompt as administrator, and running "ipconfig /flushdns" without quotations of course.
And just as fast as I hit "enter" my wireless reconnected.
Hope this helps!

Run CHKDSK

  • Go to the Start button.
  • In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Reboot your computer.
An error might pop up:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

  • Go to theStart button.
  • Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
  • Select "Run as Administrator".
  • In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
  • Reboot your computer.
