How to find a Bookmark with no name

How to find a Bookmark with no name

I have noticed that in a Word document it is possible to have a Bookmark with no name (either because one was not entered when setting up the Bookmark, or another Bookmark was created subsequently with the same name - which sets the name of the Bookmark
created first to blank).
When processing them via and Excel VBA the Bookmark is not counted as a Bookmark, even though it is visible in the Word document, and behaves as a Bookmark (e.g.
with dropdown options, as checkbox etc.
Is there any way to be able to spot these 'fields' in VB so that the document can be 'validated'?

You're confusing two separate (but related) collections: the Document.Bookmarks collection containing Bookmark objects, versus the Document.FormFields collection containing FormField objects.
The
objects you see in the document are FormFields, not Bookmarks.
Normally each FormField object has an associated Bookmark that serves as the formfield's name.
As you noted, though, it's possible to create a formfield without a bookmark or to remove the bookmark
from a formfield that had one.
If it's just a question of getting access to an unnamed formfield, you can do that with an expression like myDoc.FormFields(N), where N is some integer.
If you want to use VBA to assign a
bookmark/name to an unnamed formfield, use code like that in
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/MacrosVBA/AssignNameToFmFld.htm.
And if you're dealing with a template that you can edit before using it to
base new documents, you can just double-click the formfield (when the template is unlocked) and enter a name in the Bookmark box of the Properties dialog.
