How to Fix - 32 or 64 bit IE8? - Should I use the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer on my 64-bit computer??

32 or 64 bit IE8? - Should I use the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer on my 64-bit computer?

I've read a lot here and elsewhere re: 32 vs.
64 bit IE8 and am still confused.
New computer running Win 7 64 bit.  When I clicked the quick launch IE icon that was installed it launched the 32 bit version.  Did some reading and saw that 64 bit may not work with all websites so I've been using the 32 bit IE8.  After all it was the default
installed on the computer.  Is that the right choice?
What also confused me was when I tried to download Java so I could play some games on Yahoo.  I first downloaded the 64 bit version but when I used the 32 bit IE8 it didn't work.  I opened IE8 64 bit and Java still did not work.  So I uninstalled and installed
the standard Java and it works with the 32 bit IE8, but not with IE8 64 bit.
Can someone help me understand if I should use the 64 bit version of IE8 on my 64 bit computer and if I do use it how do I get Java to work?  Thanks
